Types of Wall Shelves

Wall shelves are a great addition to any home. Simple colors like black, brown, white or even glass shelves add a subtle touch of class to any living space. They bring a room together, help organize and free up space. Most shelving units are easy to mount and do not require a ton of heavy lifting. The units can hold lightweight items like decorative art, candles or picture frames that don't fit on the mantle.

Bathrooms can easily get cluttered. Lotions, contact solution, cotton swabs, makeup can really take up space next to the sink. These daily items would free up a lot of space in the bathroom if put on a shelf. There are different styles and kinds of shelving materials to chose from. Wood does not hold up as well as metal or plastic because of the moisture in the bathroom. Look for shelves specially designed for the bathroom. Those will be most resistant to the constant moisture in the air.

Wall shelving for kids rooms is great because it holds tons of toys and stuffed animals! The shelves can also be painted to match the rest of the room. Shelving in the garage is a another organizational tool, but check the weight limit before purchasing. Stacking heaving items, above the weight limit, onto wall shelves can create a hazordous environment.

The last type of shelving discussed today are floating wall shelves. The floating effect gives a simplistic, sleek and modern look to a room. Measure out exactly how much room is needed to install the shelves. Installation requires exact measurements and in many cases, a piece of wood should be mounted to the wall before adding the actual shelf, but pre-made shelving units come with specific installation directions. The shelves would then be secured onto the mounted wood. Mounting wall shelves can require tools such as a drill, a level, screws and wood glue.
