Benefits of a Debt Helpline

A debt helpline can help you assess your debt situation and send you in the right direction to start getting yourself out of it. Instead of haphazardly calling attorney's or heading straight for a number you saw on an informercial, take advantage of a debt helpline.

There are many different types of debt helplines you can call. The best ones I have found so far are not for profit companies. Money is already an issue, and you don't want to deal with a helpline that charges money cause that just seems backwards. Take advantage of not for profit debt helplines that can provide you with practical and trustworthy information.

One debt helpline that is very big in the UK is the National Debtline. Their site is nice because they provide a list of people for you to call to get help. The advice they provide is free and confidential.

If you are located in America, there are many companies that you can contact and make a plan to assess your debt. Here are just a few:

Green Path

Non-profit. Registered with the BBB. Been around for 50 years. They will be able to provide some assitance with your debt situation. There are a number of different ways you can go with this. One option is go the "self-help" route. Their "Green Path University" provides educational tools that help explain certain things you may not have been aware of. Greenpath provides a free debt counseling session with no sales pitches and that's nice. That's probably the last thing you want to hear in a financially stressful situations.

In Charge

Another company worth checking out. They are also registered with the BBB and have been featured in the New York Times as well as Fox News. Incharge will help you create a debt management plan and while it is not necessarily a loan, it will make your payments more affordable while you work towards getting your debt down. You can even call their "Housing Counseling" to discuss debt related issues such as foreclosures. They are A+ rated with the BBB and their site is easy to navigate.
